Join the Suez Lab!
We are a systems microbiology group at the Molecular Microbiology and Immunology department, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. We combine computational and experimental work with clinical trials to understand how microbes interact with each other and with the host - and the implications for human health.
We are currently recruiting for multiple fully-funded positions, including postdocs, graduate students, and technicians.
What are you looking for?
Science is for everyone, and as a mentor, I am committed to promoting equity and fostering an inclusive, safe and collaborative environment where everyone feels welcome, regardless of race, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. Individuals from underrepresented groups in biomedicine are encouraged to apply.
Science is a serious matter, where ethics, rigor, and quality of research are critical. At the same time, I believe science can, and should be, fun!
Why should I join?
Because the microbiome field never ceases to amaze! And as we learn more about its crucial functions in human health and disease, we also realize how little we understand and how much more remains to be discovered. The microbiome field is especially primed for discovery through curiosity-driven science, and more readily translates to clinical impact than many other areas of biomedical research.
You might be concerned about joining a newly-established lab. But consider this: your individual success is our success as a group, and I am committed to your scientific development and helping you achieve your career goals. Another perk of a new lab? You get to participate in defining how day-to-day life in the lab look like. Plus, you will have the chance to establish new systems and projects, design protocols, and thus acquire many important skills for your future career.
How can I join?
For all positions, previous experience in microbiology, immunology, or data science is helpful but not mandatory – we will train you! When inquiring about a position, tell me about your background and how you think it can relate to the research in the lab.
Postdoctoral Fellows. We are looking for a postdoctoral fellow to lead one of several exciting projects, and we can also work together to materialize your own ideas. Please send Jotham (Jsuez1 at jhu.edu) your CV and a brief letter describing your research interests and why you want to join the lab. Contact information for your graduate advisor and two other references should be included on the CV, with letters available upon request.
Research Specialist. We are looking for a full-time research specialist to join our team and contribute to multiple projects in the lab related to microbial ecology and host-microbiome interactions in metabolic, infectious, and autoimmune diseases. The individual will participate in laboratory research, and will be responsible for performing animal experiments, in-vitro microbiological assays, and next-generation sequencing. As part of a new lab, the individual will participate in setting up, optimizing and validating laboratory protocols as well as prepare, test, and maintain standard laboratory equipment. See additional details and apply through this link: Research specialist.
Graduate students. Prospective PhD and Masters students are encouraged to consult our departmental online information regarding the available programs. Students currently affiliated with the program and interested in visiting the lab for their rotation should contact Jotham directly.
Undergraduate students. JHU undergraduates interested in participating in our research activities should contact Jotham directly.
